Motorhome Hire Freiburg

The city on the Dreisam River is one of the largest cities in Baden-Württemberg. It perfectly combines historical and modern architecture, green spaces and places to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. The architectural enthusiasts among you must be sure not to miss the Colombischlössle, a stately manor house from the 18th century that has a romantic park to stroll around in. Today, the villa is home to the Archaeological Museum. The landmark of the city is Freiburg Minster, which sits enthroned in the middle of the city on Münsterplatz and took some 300 years to build. The local highlight, however, is the Freiburg Bächle, which runs through the entire city and attracts both the young and the old.

For many years now Freiburg has been trying to be more environmentally friendly, sustainable and it supports numerous projects and initiatives under the slogan “Green City Freiburg”. In contrast to the traditional buildings in the old town, these new green projects make motorhome rental in Freiburg even more interesting.

Getting to Freiburg

Freiburg is conveniently located in southwest Germany, a stone’s throw from the French and Swiss borders. From the border town of Strasbourg, Freiburg is just an hour's drive away on the A5. The Swiss city of Basel is just one hour south of the city. From Munich, it is around a four-hour drive westbound on the A8 and A5 to Freiburg.

The city is easy to reach from many surrounding cities by train and bus. There are numerous connections from Munich, Nuremberg and Stuttgart that head to Freiburg Central Station.

If you prefer the jet-setter lifestyle, you can arrive at Stuttgart Airport. From there, the journey to the centre takes between two and three hours by bus or train. Basel Airport in Switzerland also offers a practical alternative. Freiburg is less than one hour away on public transport.

Parking in Freiburg

The city centre is divided into three parking zones. The hourly rate is between €1.30 and €3.20 depending on the zone. Information boards can be used to quickly locate parking spaces and multi-storey car parks in the vicinity. Parking a campervan rental in Freiburg in a multi-storey car park is not recommended due to the low headroom in most of them.

An inexpensive option for parking the campervan for longer is the Katherinenstraße car park. The maximum daily rate is €10, and the city centre is just a 15-minute walk away.

If you want to keep parking as straightforward as possible and most importantly, inexpensive, why not head to one of the numerous Park & Ride car parks outside the city, such as in Paduaallee, Gundelfinger Straße or Bissierstraße. All these car parks are free and offer regular connections to the city centre.
