Las Vegas is situated in a basin on the floor of the Mojave Desert. Framed by mountain ranges on all sides, most of the landscape is arid and rocky, with desert wildlife and vegetation. The city itself is host to trees, lawns, and other greenery, however there has been a movement to encourage xeriscapes due to water resource issues.
Las Vegas is the most populous city in the state of Nevada and the largest city within the greater Mojave Desert. As an internationally renowned resort city, it’s primarily known for its gambling, entertainment, fine dining, shopping, and nightlife.
