Campervan Rental Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf, along with Cologne, is the administrative region of the Rhineland metropolitan area. The city is home to more than 5 million inhabitants, and the number is growing. Japanese culture is especially commonplace in Düsseldorf. Little Tokyo, which was even declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2013, is located on Immermannstraße (Immermann Street). When you rent a motorhome in Düsseldorf, you can travel all the way to Asia, at least figuratively. Besides restaurants that serve delicious Asian food, supermarkets, bookstores, and quaint little shops all await you.

Another world-famous location is Königsallee, Düsseldorf’s luxury shopping mile. Not far from there, you will find numerous boutiques and department stores, as well as more affordable and second-hand shops. A visit to the Rhine metropolis won’t be complete without a stop at one of Düsseldorf’s breweries. Furthermore, you can never spend too much time in the city’s museums or experiencing the city’s culture.

Getting to Düsseldorf

Many roads lead to Rome and almost as many Autobahns lead to Düsseldorf. The city is in the middle of one of the densest Autobahn networks in all of Europe, with the A3, A44, A46, A52, A57, A59, and A524. If you rent a campervan in Düsseldorf, you can reach the city from every direction.

Düsseldorf Airport is only 10 minutes from downtown and flights from 203 cities around the world land there. 46 airlines fly in and out of the airport, including Condor, EasyJet, Eurowings, Lufthansa, Air France, British Airways, Austrian Airlines, and TUI.

You can also arrive by train. Düsseldorf Central Station is one of Germany’s busiest train stations and therefore has excellent long-distance connections on IC (Inter City) and ICE (Inter City Express) trains.

Parking in Düsseldorf

According to traffic regulations, it’s perfectly okay to park on the side of the road in your RV rental in Düsseldorf—for up to 14 days. Nevertheless, finding a big enough spot to park in a suitable place in the city will not be easy.

A better solution is to park at the Rheinterrasse / Tonhalle Parking Lot. From there, you can reach the center of town on foot or by using public transportation. The lot costs $2.70 per hour and a maximum of $16 per day. During Caravan Salon, the trade fair for mobile travel, you can also park at the Caravan Center for $34 per night.

Annual Events in Düsseldorf

Annual activities that you don’t want to miss out on if you rent a camper in Düsseldorf:

  • Japan Day (May or June): a traditional festival that recognizes the German-Japanese friendship annually. Festivities take place along the Rhine Promenade and at Burgplatz. Free.
  • Carnival (runs from November 11 to Ash Wednesday of the following year): Carnival events include stage shows, balls, and a Shrove Monday parade. Street festival between Altweiber (Women’s Carnival Day) and Ash Wednesday. Participation in the street festival is free.
  • France Festival (July); large tourist event with the traditional culture to strengthen German-French ties. Admission fee between $5 and $9.

Camping in Düsseldorf

  • Campground Lörick in the northern part of the city, well maintained and very green, with its own beer garden. For campers up to 9 meters long, $10, plus $7 per adult and $4 per child.
  • Rheincamping Meerbusch, very idyllic location in a nature reserve on the Rhine. $22–28 for the parking space, plus $10 per adult and $6 per child.
  • Wohnmobilstellplatz Niederrhein, newly constructed in 2014, with an ideal Autobahn connection. Inexpensive parking spaces starting at $13.50.
